Update: Not dead it's just resting

Sorry it's been a while since the last update.

The game isn't dead but very little has progressed. It's on Ice at present while I work on getting at least the proof of concept of another project done.

I have a pla so far than once I have the proof of concept out I will be able to hopefully get back to work on this one.

The main problem is and was my old laptop burned out (6 years old so it's not surprising it died considering how much it was used) so I had to transfer out some files and I'm working on getting back to using SUDS.

June progress update

So just letting you know how progress is going on this project.

Slow


Ok I'm guessing I should actually say there has been some progress. I'm still working on the full map an descriptions. The map itself is still being created but I have mostly been working on other areas. I've started to get to grips with conversation programming and I also have most of the programming written for character movement for the first NPC. I also have the frameworks created to fill in for changing descriptions and weight gain / stuffing of an NPC.


Oh and I've also been working on a second project which I'm keeping under wraps a bit longer but it will be in Rags not SUDs.

No new release yet but I will release another pre-alpha once the map is finished and the room descriptions are mostly there (note I may have to password protect the next version to help prevent spoilers for those who don't want them)

Update

So weird update, I haven't finished the map, or the room descriptions but I have started to work on the first character.

At present it's very bare bones but I think I've got half the pathing procedure written (yes this game is hopefully going to be more than random number generators). The aim if I can get it programmed is to have some kind of more living world with NPCs which actually have their own things to do.


Ok first I need a small bit more feedback from people on direction.

Down the line, because of the living world idea I'm thinking of adding in a day night cycle, would people want this ?  
The basic idea being the NPC behavior would change depending on the time 

So the To do list now looks like this.

Finish map + descriptions
Program in variable descriptions for NPC1
Finish pathing procedure for NPC1
Start conversation tree for NPC1
Finish weight gain logic for NPC1 to work with descriptions.

Pre-Alpha 1

Ok so for various reason such as slow development etc I've decided to release something.
This is a pre-alpha version of the game to test opinion

Whats here:
About a third of the map

Whats not here:
Everything else including room descriptions objects and NPCs
What I said it was a pre-alpha version I've included the creator file for people who want to look to see whats there so far (there's really not much)

Hopefully the next pre-alpha version will have the full map and room descriptions and then I can move onto populating the map a bit.

The new plan

Ok this project is still going ahead, but not at present in Rags. It will be in SUDs instead due to me preferring the user interface.

The present plan is to finish the map and possibly one character then release the in development version as such. I plan to either put the password on here or leave the base file unlocked to allow others to take over / work on it should they wish to. This is to prevent the project being entirely dependent upon me to carry on.
My part as such will be to complete what I've set out for the game, a basic story, a few puzzles and some characters of course.
Once that's done I probably will stop development on it and pass it on so if people wish they can continue and add.
At present the plan so far is to only make the vault but I don't know how much spare room will be left after I'm done so those with plans already to make a huge expansion. Keep them on hold.

An Intro I guess

Well with so many games about I thought I'd try my hand at a simple one.
The initial concept is based on an idea brought up in the Fallout Nuka Cola series. The game will place you as a resident of Vault 10C one of a weird series of offshoots of the vault experiment sponsored by Nuka Cola.
Initially the game is being build in Rags  0.9.9.2 as that's the free version though if anyone happens to have a handy and easier to use one which doesn't require me to program the code for everything then feel free to suggest it.
Who knows how far this will go or if it will even take off but I've started the initial map and from there I plan to get working on implementing a few characters and the first objects.
As soon as I have something resembling a playable version it will be posted here, also as I'm using the free version anyone who wants to add should easily be able to try their features in the editor before putting them in for real
